ESIL Mentoring Event: Breaking into and succeeding in Academia: Tips for the first 5 years
The event will take place over lunch from 12:40 to 14:00 on Friday 8 September during the ESIL Annual Conference in Naples.
The mentoring event, which builds on successful events in Oslo and Riga, will involve a focused exchange between junior and more experienced members of the ESIL community. Early-career academics and graduate students will have the opportunity to register to take part in the event and speak with up to three mentors. The aim is to facilitate the flow of ideas and experience between people at different stages of their lives and careers in international law. Participants will speak one-on-one or in small groups of 2-3 people, for periods of 10-15 minutes about tips for success in academia. This may cover questions about finding and obtaining academic positions, developing research projects, type or frequency of publications, teaching tips, work/life balance, gender issues, and much more.
Places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure to secure your place by emailing esil.mentoring@unina.it
Please choose two mentors from the list of mentors and also indicate your areas of interest (e.g. law of the sea, international economic law, etc.). The local organisers will do their best to assign mentees to mentors on the basis of these preferences.
Registration closes on 15 August.
