Dear ESIL members,
2026 is an election year for the ESIL Board.
The 2026 General Assembly of the Society will elect seven Board members.
The General Assembly will be held on the occasion of the 2026 Annual
Conference in Málaga, Spain, on 4 September 2026.
All current ESIL members will be invited to vote
in the elections. Members must have
paid their
2026 membership fee by 24 August 2026 to
participate in voting.
The
election of new Board members will open via an online voting
platform at the beginning of the ESIL Annual
Conference and will conclude before the end of the ESIL General Assembly.
All ESIL members will receive via email a link to anonymously
cast their vote. ESIL cannot trace personal data.
The link can be used irrespective of the voter's location (in
Malaga or elsewhere).
We
would hereby like to draw your attention to the nomination and
election procedures in accordance with the bye-laws of our Society.
Eligibility for ESIL Board Nomination
According
to the Society’s bye-laws, any
member of the Society who has been a member for at least one year
is eligible to become a member of the Board.
Persons must have joined
the Society at the latest by 3 June 2025 to be
eligible for nomination. Eligible candidates should be willing to
actively
contribute to the Society, participate
effectively in its activities, and be responsible for a selected
number of ongoing tasks and assignments as Board members, in
addition to attending
the Board meetings held each year, including
those held in person on the occasions of the ESIL Research Forum
and Annual Conference. They should have an active knowledge of
one of the official languages of the Society and at least a
passive knowledge of the other.
Nomination Procedure
Persons
must be nominated
by two other members of the Society who have also
been members for at least one year. Nominations shall be sent by email to esil.secretariat@eui.eu
with the subject line: ‘ESIL
Board elections 2026’. The nomination emails will
include a
short justification of the nomination explaining
why the nominee would particularly well represent the Society and
its purposes.
The
nominee must also send a
separate email to esil.secretariat@eui.eu:
in this email, the nominee must accept the nomination by the
two ESIL members by mentioning their names, and provide a short biography
in English or French (150 words maximum).
The deadline for nominations is ninety days before
the election, that is Saturday, 6 June 2026, at 18.00 CEST. Late nominations will not
be accepted. Delay in receiving any of the three
components of the nomination, i.e. the two
nomination emails or acceptance of nomination by the nominee, counts as a late
nomination.
Election Procedure
The
election will be held in
line with the Society’s bye-laws, and the Society
welcomes
candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Candidates
will be asked to send by
Sunday, 21 June 2026:
- a photo
- a 150-word bio in
both English and French
- a 450-word
written statement
- a two-minute
presentation video
to
introduce themselves and to explain their envisaged contribution
to the Board’s activities. The 450-word written statement and two-minute
presentation video may be in English or French,
as the candidate prefers. This information will be posted online and
available for viewing through the election date.
If
you have any questions regarding the nomination and election
procedure, please do not hesitate to contact us at esil.secretariat@eui.eu.
Best wishes,
