The University of Iceland Human Rights Institute is pleased to announce an international conference on “Shifting Centres of Gravity in European Human Rights Protection”, which will be held in Reykjavík 6-7 March 2014.

The focus of the conference is on recent developments in the European human rights architecture from the adoption of the Brighton Declaration to Protocols 15 and 16 and the future EU accession to the ECHR.  It will explore these themes from the perspective that current developments call for a critical assessment of classical approaches to the three-dimensional relationship between the ECHR, EU law and national law; of the theories and tools utilised to navigate this relationship; and of the effects current developments may have on victims and vulnerable groups.  The speakers include leading researchers from across Europe.

Information on the programme, registration and discounted hotel rates can be found here.  For further information please contact María Theijll, Director of the Human Rights Institute (mariath@hi.is).
