Early-Career Network – Appel à Nouveaux Membres

Lisez l’appel

The Early-Career Network

The ESIL Early-Career Network was launched in summer 2022 to foster the involvement of and collaboration between emerging scholars and professionals in international law in ESIL. To do so, the Co-ordinating Committee organises specialised events and activities for junior members and raises their interests in the institutional fora.

Since its inauguration, the Co-ordinating Committee has created a social media account, institutionalised “Early-Career Drinks” at the Annual Conference together with local organisers and PhDs, developed an ESIL mentoring program, organised a range of online events and engagements with the ESIL Board, and led numerous initiatives, such as the Diversity Advisory Board, to reduce barriers of participation of emerging scholars and practitioners in ESIL.

Early-Career Network Members' Tasks

As a member of the ESIL Early-Career Network Co-ordinating Committee you would be part of a team responsible for coordinating the activities of the ESIL Early-Career Network.

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organising in person, hybrid, or online events for early-career members on a variety of themes that are relevant for early-career scholars and practitioners.

  • Organising the mentoring program and other activities that are of particular importance to the career development of early-career members.

  • Represent the interests of emerging scholars and practitioners in the institutional fora of ESIL, e.g. Board meetings, Greening Initiative, consultative member of local organising teams.

  • Participate yearly in either an Annual Conference or a Research Forum event in person, representing the Early-Career Network.

  • Outreach, e.g. on the ESILEarlyCareer X, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.

As a member of the ESIL Early-Career Network Coordinating Committee you will take part in deciding the direction for the ESIL and you will interact directly with the ESIL Board.

Travel grants to each ESIL Research Forum and Annual Conference are provided for up to two Co-ordinating Committee members who do not have any other institutional support.
This is done with the expectation that Co-ordinating Committee members will actively participate in and organise in-person activities at these events.

Number of available seats and how to apply

The Board is currently looking to fill one (1) empty seat on the Co-ordinating Committee. The term for newly elected members of the Co-ordinating Committee will be two (2) years with the possibility of a one (1) year extension.

  • You must be an early-career researcher, defined as eligible for participation in the ESIL Research Forum or the Early-Career Scholar Prize. Namely, either:
    • A candidate enrolled in a postgraduate (PhD or master) degree in law; OR
    • Within the first 5 years of your career following the award of your last academic degree.

  • You should be passionate about finding ways of providing opportunities for early-career scholars and practitioners.

  • You should be willing and able to take part in the day-to-day coordination of the Network and the tasks described above.

  • The ESIL Board is keen to ensure a diverse and inclusive Co-ordination Committee and would particularly encourage nominations from candidates who identify with groups that are under-represented within ESIL.

  • Though not a requirement, experience and institutional knowledge of ESIL is a benefit. Please provide us with your experience so far, e.g. by having participated in ESIL in person and online events or mentoring activities as well as ESIL Interest Groups.

Please send a short CV, a motivation letter (including your engagement with ESIL and future plans) by 5 July 2025 by 23:59 CEST Time Zone to the ESIL Secretariat via esil.secretariat@eui.eu with the subject ‘Early Career Network Nomination‘.
