3 PhD positions at Zurich
For the SNSF funded Professorship „Juridification of global health concerns: Implications for health prevention, treatment and health systems“, the Faculty of law of the University of Zurich invites applications for:
3 positions as Ph.D. Researcher (50%)
from 1 October 2013 (or per agreement) for a duration of 2 years, with possible extension.
The project will analyze the development and enforcement of legal mechanisms designed to respond to global public health threats. In the last two decades concerns about health prevention, treatment and health systems have been accompanied by the phenomenon of juridification, which refers to the proliferation of international legal instruments concerned with public health and the increasing role of the judiciary in this field. The research group will systematically analyze the national and international legal rules applicable to the protection of human health and clarify the theoretical foundations of global health law. This will allow the formulation of concrete recommendations regarding international legal instruments best suited to improve global health.
The Ph.D. Researcher are expected to develop their own project, as part of a Ph.D, within the framework described above and to engage in the common activities related to the main research project (the doctoral thesis can be written in English, French or German).
Applicants must hold a degree in law with excellent grades, be able to work independently, demonstrate interest for global health and human rights issues, be able to engage in teamwork, have good computer skills and be fluent in English and in German and/or French. A background in international public law and comparative public (health) law is an asset.
The conditions of employment are defined by cantonal law and the remuneration is defined by the SNSF guidelines.
