ESIL-supported Public Lecture to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the passing of Antonio Cassese
The Office of the President of the European University Institution and the Academy of European Law are organizing a public lecture to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the passing of Antonio Cassese, which will take place on Thursday 21 October 2021 at the European University Institute in Florence. This event aims to honour the prominent work of Professor Cassese, a professor of international law, who held many significant roles in international organizations. He taught at the universities of Pisa and Florence, and at the EUI, where he was instrumental in setting up the AEL in 1990. He also co-founded the European Journal of International Law and the Journal of International Criminal Justice.
The lecture will be given by Hina Jilani. She is a pioneering lawyer and international champion of human rights who worked with Professor Cassese in the UN International Commission of Inquiry into Violations of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Darfur. Hina Jilani is a member of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders working for peace, justice and human rights, founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007.
