Biography:
Christian J. Tams is professor of international law at the University of Glasgow and at the Ecole de Droit de la Sorbonne in Paris. He teaches and writes on international law, with a focus on dispute settlement, State responsibility and investment protection. In addition to his academic work, Christian regularly advises States and other actors in disputes before international courts and tribunals.
Christian has been active in the Society since 2005, including as mentor, conference speaker and book series editor. In 2022, he led the local team hosting the Glasgow Research Forum on ‘International Law and Global Security’. ESIL members elected Christian to the Board in 2020; he was re-elected for a second term in 2024. Since 2022, he serves as one of the Society’s Vice-Presidents.
Christian is married and the father of two daughters. He is a long-suffering supporter of a once-successful football team, the Hamburger Sport-Verein.
