ESIL – ECtHR Joint Event on “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: New Horizons in European Legal Protection”

The European Society of International Law (ESIL), together with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), is organising a joint conference on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: New Horizons in European Legal Protection.

As artificial intelligence reshapes societies, legal frameworks must adapt to safeguard fundamental rights. How can international courts and legal experts respond to the challenges posed by AI-driven decision-making? What mechanisms can ensure human dignity in an era of algorithmic governance?

This high-level conference brings together judges of the European Court of Human Rights, leading scholars, and international legal experts to explore the intersection of AI and human rights. Discussions will address:

  • The evolution of human rights in the digital era
  • AI’s role in adjudication—enhancing justice or challenging judicial authority?
  • The future of legal protections against AI-driven biases
