Online Webinar
Abuse of Process and Abuse of Rights Claims before International Courts and Tribunals

11 December 2025, 13:30 to 15:00 (CET),  Online event via TEAMS

ABOUT THE EVENT

This webinar, co-organised by the ESIL Interest Group on International Courts and Tribunals and Radboud University Nijmegen, will explore how international courts and tribunals address abuse of process and abuse of rights claims. Such claims are increasingly invoked by states, yet approaches vary significantly across international fora. There remains a lack of clarity and uniformity as to the nature of an abuse of process claim, how it is assessed, and the legal consequences of a finding of abuse, making this a timely and important topic for discussion.

The webinar will feature presentations by Prof. Marie Lemey (Université de Bretagne Occidentale), Dr. Letizia Lo Giacco (Leiden University), and Dr. Ezgi Özlü (University of Strasbourg), followed by a moderated discussion and audience Q&A chaired by Dr. Sarah (Sally) Thin (Radboud University Nijmegen).

The event is open to both ESIL members and non-members, but advance registration is required to attend.
