Academic Writing

This interactive research seminar focuses on honing the essential writing skills required for PhD researchers in international law. Originally delivered at Leiden Law School in the Netherlands, the seminar fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas aimed at cultivating advanced writing techniques. As novelist Anthony Trollope once observed, writing ‘requires that which all other professions require… considerable training, and much hard grinding industry.’ Throughout twelve debates, participants reflect on and improve their writing, guided by insightful quotes from renowned authors. The debates are further enriched by a unique Dutch tradition, in which these quotes are inscribed on ‘tegelspreuken’, offering participants a creative and informal way to share best practices.
