THE ESIL CONVERSATIONS
The ESIL Conversations are conceived as a series of online events through which The European Society of International Law (ESIL) aims to contribute to the discourse on international law. The first series, “Multilateralism in Times of Unilateralism”, is focused on negotiations of major treaties (like the Convention on Crimes against Humanity or the Convention on Protection of Persons in the Events of Disasters, as well as on the future of the United Nations Organisation). ESIL Conversations will offer high-level discussions on central questions of international law.
MORE ABOUT THE SECOND CONVERSATION “TOWARDS A TREATY ON PROTECTION OF PERSONS IN THE EVENT OF DISASTERS”
In the second conversation “Towards a Treaty on Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters”, our Board Member Giulio Bartolini (University of Roma Tre) will discuss ongoing work on the Treaty on Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters and ask about main problems and threats related with negotiations of the new convention with a panel of experts composed by representatives of various engaged stakeholders (States; Academia; and Civil Society Organisations).
The panel of experts includes:
- Patrícia Galvão Teles (Director of the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Member of the U.N. International Law Commission (2017 -), Professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon)
- Isabelle Granger (Global Lead, Disaster Law and Auxiliary Role, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)
- Enrico Milano (Legal Advisor at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, Professor at Bologna University)
- Eduardo Valencia-Ospina (Member of the U.N. International Law Commission (2006-2002), serving as Special Rapporteur on Protection of Persons in the Event of Disaster)
