All ESIL events and activities should be held on a carbon-neutral basis and should be as inclusive as possible. The Society expects all local organizers and all members to look for every opportunity to participate in the life of the Society even if travel is reduced, in order to have a much lower carbon impact. Wherever possible, members are encouraged to travel to ESIL events by public transportation and/or offset the carbon footprint associated with travel via the purchase of appropriate carbon offsets; and the organizers of annual conferences, research fora, joint events, Interest Group events, etc. should aim to minimize the net carbon footprint associated with these events. To that end, ESIL commits to supporting members and local organizers in achieving this goal including via appropriate financial support and advice.
