2026 ESIL Annual Conference | “International Law and Conflict: An Enduring Tension?” | Registration now open

Málaga, 3–5 September 2026

ESIL is pleased to announce that registration is now open and the programme will be available soon for the 21st Annual Conference of the European Society of International Law, to be held on 3–5 September 2026 at the Faculty of Law, University of Málaga.

The theme of the 2026 Annual Conference is “International Law and Conflict: An Enduring Tension?”  and the conference will explore the complex and evolving relationship between international law and conflict, understood in both its traditional and contemporary forms. At a time marked by geopolitical instability, armed violence, institutional contestation, economic fragmentation, environmental strain, technological disruption, and competing visions of global order, the theme invites renewed reflection on the role, limits, and possibilities of international law.

The programme brings together scholars, practitioners, and members of the wider international law community for panels, agorae, keynote sessions, and scholarly exchanges that address a broad range of issues in public international law. The conference will provide a space for critical discussion, intellectual exchange, and engagement with some of the most pressing questions currently facing the discipline.

Participants are invited to complete their registration and consult the programme through the conference website
