Le prix a été octroyé à l'unanimité par les membres du jury : James R. Crawford, Martti Koskenniemi et Christian Tomuschat. Il a été remis lors du dîner de gala de la 3ème Conférence biennale de la SEDI à Heidelberg en septembre 2008.
