2027 ESIL Annual Conference on “International Law and Future(s)” | Call for Papers

Lisbon, 9–11 September 2027

ESIL is pleased to announce that the Call for submissions for the 2027 ESIL Annual Conference 2026 has now been published.

The 2027 ESIL Annual Conference will be hosted by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa from 9–11 September 2027, under the general theme:

“International Law and Future(s)”

What future lies ahead for international law, and what international law do we want for the future? Against a backdrop of profound geopolitical change, mounting challenges to multilateralism, climate and environmental threats, rapid technological advances and artificial intelligence, shifting economic power and growing polarization, the 2027 ESIL Annual Conference invites the international law community to look ahead. Under the theme “International Law and Future(s)”, the Conference will provide a space to imagine possible futures, rethink existing rules and institutions, and explore how international law can respond to emerging challenges while safeguarding shared values.

Full details of the Call, including thematic agorae, submission guidelines, and key deadlines, are available in the call and soon on the conference website.

All those engaged with international law—including researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other professionals— are invited to submit proposals.

Abstract submission deadline: 31 January 2027
