8-9 October 2026
Collège de France, amphithéâtre Mireille Delmas-Marty
On 8–9 October 2026, the Collège de France will host the interdisciplinary conference“La quête de l’eau atmosphérique: Enjeux historiques, philosophiques, théologiques, politiques & juridiques.”
As climate change and increasing pressure on water resources reshape our relationship with water, the conference turns attention to an often-overlooked resource: atmospheric water. Bringing together perspectives from international law, ethnography, philosophy, history, religious studies and theology, the event will explore how societies have understood, used and sought to regulate this volatile resource.
Across four thematic panels, participants will address questions ranging from the legal status of atmospheric water and the politics of its control to cloud seeding, atmospheric water harvesting, environmental modification and the ethical and legal limits of manipulating natural processes.
