THE ESIL CONVERSATIONS
The ESIL Conversations are conceived as a series of online events through which The European Society of International Law (ESIL) aims to contribute to the discourse on international law. The second series, “Responsibility of States and International Organizations in Times of Accountability Gaps: 25 Years of ARSIWA and 15 Years of ARIO”, aims to critically examine how contemporary practice has exposed legal gaps and revealed new, uncodified tendencies in these areas, calling for a critical reassessment of the solutions adopted by the ILC and an assessment of their current role and potential future developments.

In the first session of this brand-new ESIL Conversation series, organised in cooperation with the ESIL IG on International Organisations, our ESIL Board member Patrycja Grzebyk and Lorenzo Gasbarri, ESIL member and co-convenor of the ESIL IG on International Organisations, will moderate a distinguished panel of experts formed by:
- Freya Baetens, Professor of Public International Law and ESIL Board member, University of Oxford
- Joyce De Coninck, Max Weber Fellow, European University Institute
- André Nollkaemper, Professor of International Law and Sustainability, University of Amsterdam
- Yohei Okada, Professor at the Graduate School of Law, Kyoto University
- Simon Olleson, Barrister, Twenty Essex
to analyse one of the central questions in the law of international responsibility: when, and under what circumstances, can conduct be attributed to a State or an international organisation?
