ABOUT THE EVENT
The ESIL Interest Group on the Law of the Sea warmly invites conference participants to join its event “A Roundtable Discussion of Recent ITLOS Cases”, taking place during the ESIL Annual Conference in Málaga on 3 September 2026, from 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM Málaga time zone.
The event will examine two important recent developments before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS): the M/T Heroic Idun (No. 2) judgment and the Seabed Disputes Chamber’s provisional measures orders in the proceedings concerning inquiries by the International Seabed Authority.
These cases are likely to contribute significantly to the progressive development of the law of the sea and raise issues of particular interest to scholars and practitioners.
The programme combines a traditional expert panel with an interactive roundtable discussion, offering participants the opportunity to engage with leading experts, exchange views on current developments, gain insights for their own research, and network with members of the ESIL law of the sea community.
