Paolo Davide Farah is Member of the ESIL Board, an ESIL Lifetime Member and a Convener of the ESIL IG on International Environmental Law. During his work as IG Convener, he has organized several IG events:

Paolo is a Full-Time Faculty Member at West Virginia University, John D. Rockefeller IV School of Policy and Politics and the College of Law (USA). Member of the West Virginia University, Energy Institute. Member of the West Virginia University, Center for Innovation in Gas Research and Utilization (CIGRU). Member of West Virginia University, Institute of Water Science and Security (IWSS). He is teaching and researching in international law, climate change, international trade, business and human rights, social justice, sustainable development, energy and international environmental law and policy. He is Founder, President and Director of gLAWcal – Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development, United Kingdom ( and Principal Investigator and Co-PI for EU Commission funded research projects in collaboration with EU, Chinese, Russian and Japanese research and academic institutions.  He is also Co-PI of US funded research projects. Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL), Georgetown University Law Center, Washington DC, USA. He has variously taught classes on public international law, international economic law and WTO law, European Law, Comparative law, and Chinese law in Italy, in the UK (as Senior Lecturer), USA and China (as Visiting Professor).  He was a Visiting Scholar (2011–2012) at Harvard Law School, East Asian Legal Studies Program. As Scientific Director, since 2006, he has been coordinating the Summer Law Institute in China – Executive Education Training Program ( held in China. He was an International Consultant and Legal Advisor for projects implemented for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), for the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and Commerce and for the OECD. He has previously worked at the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization in Geneva and was an Associate Lawyer of Baker & McKenzie Law Firm, Milan, Italy. Since 2014, Professor Farah has been an Appointed Member of the International Law Association – ILA Committees on International Law, Trade and Sustainable Development and Elected Chair of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) Intellectual Property Law Interest Group.
