ESIL Mooting Prizes for Jessup Competition in Russia
The European Society of International Law is pleased to support the Russian National Championship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

The Jessup Competition is organized in Russia by White & Case LLC and Threefold Legal Advisors LLC. It has been supported by ESIL since 2014.
The Russian Rounds of the Jessup Competition are one of the largest national rounds in the world. This year students from 40 Russian universities will come to Moscow to participate in the competition.
This year, as part of International Law Lectures in Russia organized by the European Society of International Law and Threefold Legal Advisors LLC two lecturers will present their works on Friday, 4 February:

  • G.-Matteo Vaccaro-Incisa Investment Arbitration: Evil or Scapegoat? New Trends in Investment Treaty Making;
  • Marija Đorđeska General Principles of Law and the Science of International Law.

The Final Round of Jessup Russia will be presided over by Francesco Francioni, Professor, emeritus, of International Law at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy), Professor of International Law at LUISS University (Rome, Italy), Christina Cerna, Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center (Washington DC, USA), and Thomas McDonald, partner at White & Case LLP.

This year’s Jessup problem addresses issues of transboundary aquifers, basic human rights, including the rights to food and water, and what happens when alleged violations of said rights generate refugee outflows.
The 2017 International Rounds of the Jessup will take place on April 9 – 15, 2017 in Washington, DC, at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill (at the same time and location as ASIL Annual Meeting).
